The Daoist Qigong Collective is a learning & teaching community comprised of laypeople, qigong students & teachers, health care practitioners, and others interested in Daoist medicinal qigong & meditation.  

We use the term "medicinal qigong" rather than "medical qigong" to distinguish the fact we do not limit our teachings to generic styles of qigong that focus on health maintenance.  Instead, many or most of the qigong exercises and meditations we teach in our seminars are designed to promote healing and address each individual's health imbalances, like an herbal prescription, or customized diet. 

We provide training in Daoist theory & inner alchemy (neidan) practice.  "Firing the medicines" is a concept found in Daoist inner alchemy, and is a means of transforming consciousness.  Therefore, the theories and meditative traditions we teach can also be seen as medicines for the mind, body & spirit.

The Daoist Qigong Collective promotes Medicinal Daoism (TM), which follows the health and spirit cultivation practices of Daoist Chinese medicine masters from ancient times to the present.

The DQC was founded by Dr. Suzanne Friedman, an acupuncturist, herbalist, and doctor of medical qigong therapy.  Dr. Friedman is the Chair of the Medical Qigong Science Department at the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, California, and is the author of Heal Yourself with Qigong, Medical Qigong Exercise Prescriptions and The Yijing Medical Qigong System.  Dr. Friedman is the first non-Chinese to be inducted into her teacher Grandmaster Bing Fan YeYoung's lineage as a YeYoung Qigong and Neidan (Inner Alchemy) master.

The collective is co-run by Calvin Fahey, who holds a master's degree in medical qigong therapy and is a certified acupuncture detoxification specialist.  Calvin has trained under various qigong masters on both coasts of the US.  He is an assistant instructor in the AIMC Berkeley Medical Qigong program, and teaches qigong & meditation classes regularly in Europe and California.  Calvin runs a production company that produces qigong teaching aids such as DVDs and CDs.
